Private & Gardener
Attention!
Due to an extreme influx in activities, we are unfortunately forced to refrain from accepting projects of gardens smaller than 1500m². This means no tenders and construction work for new applications. Of course we are still available for the maintenance of already existing systems built by Broere Irrigatie. It is still possible to order and collect irrigation materials. Thank you for your understanding.
Broere Hortitech advices to irrigate grass with sprinklers, this way the grass will get firm and healthy. The duration and the frequency of the irrigation together with the soil type will determine how the grass will grow. When the grass is mowed regularly and the mowed grass is removed, it is important to pay attention to the nutrient state of the soil to make sure the grass wil grow optimally. If this is taken care of you will still have a beautiful deep green field of grass after a few years.
Irrigating borders with a driplines.
If you have a rose garden or a border with hydrangea, drip irrigation is a must! Your plants will stay dry, the flower buds will stay healthy and the plant has enough water. Another pro is that it doesn´t cost much water and energy. Depending on the soil type the dripline will be placed 40 to 60cm apart from each other. The driplines can be placed on a slightly sloping surface because the dripline is pressure compensating. When there is a big difference in height in your garden we recommend that you make an appointment with a designer of Broere Irrigatie. The smallest pieces of soil can go through the filter of 130 micron and will stay in the driplines, therefore it is important that the driplines are installed so that they can be flushed once every 4 weeks. Depending on the pollution Broere Irrigatie advises to do this more or less often. For questions you can contact us!
When to irrigate? The rain check can help.
The moistness of the soil depends on the weather conditions. It is possible to monitor the moistness of the soil. In the gardening sector most of the irrigating happens from the end of April till the end of September. The time and frequency are very dependable of the ground type and the design of the garden. It is desirable to not make grass become dependable of the water supplied by sprinklers because it is important that the roots of the grass will grow so they can use nutrients from the ground. You can realize this by irrigating the grass 3 times a week. During a rainy period in the summer its best to wait with irrigating till the ground is considerably dry again. To irrigate or not to irrigate is easily automated using the rain check. The rain check is a small simple box where, when it rains, water will fall in. when the box is empty again by evaporation the irrigation system will be activated again.
Dosed irrigating by splitting the field in crane compartments
Broere Hortitech advises people with big gardens to split their gardens in a few compartments with separate operating possibilities. This makes it possible to give more water to the south side of the garden and less water to the north side. In a windy period it is also possible to give no water to the windy side and only to the side where there isn’t a lot of wind. By splitting your garden in compartments you can fine tune the irrigation schedule to match the needs of every plant.
Irrigating with tap water, well water or ditch water?
Broere Hortitech advises to use tap water when irrigating a small garden or balcony. For bigger gardens you can make a well or use water from a ditch. Every type of water has its pros & cons. Tap water is relative expensive, has a low amount of minerals but is very stable and has a good quality. Well water can be a good quality but can also contain much iron and bicarbonate. Due to this, well water leaves a less charming residue behind on buildings, paths and plants. Well water has almost no pollution. The quality of ditch water has grown the last years but Broere Irrigatie advises to filter the water , especially when there are dripping hoses in use. Nutritious substances and quality of ditch water can vitiate a lot as result of changing in the volume. When ditch water is being sucked up profound it will solve most problems. Besides that the maintenance needed will be reduced. For questions you can contact us.
Use a pump when irrigating with well and ditch water.
When you want to irrigate your garden with well or ditch water a pump is necessary. You can use a simple or a professional pump. The employees of Broere Hortitech can explain the pros and cons of the pumps. After evaluating which pump meets all the wishes we are happy to place the chosen pump in a polyester container to keep it from getting wet. Every pump will be provided with a pumpcontrol to prevent the pump from overheating. The pump will turn on automatically when a valve has been opened.
Pipe’s with drains or blowing them through
When designing the pipe installation Broere Hortitech presumes a water speed of 1,5 meters per second. For the pipe’s we use polyethylene (PE). The pipe’s can be placed without a trench (pulled through the ground) or traditionally dug. Broere Irrigatie advises to make a line drain at the lowest point of the pipes; this is visually the best place as well. This line drain can be used to empty the pipes to make the system ready for periods of frost. Another possibility is to blow the pipe’s empty using air pressure. We suggest to close a maintenance contract with us so we can take care of this and make sure nothing breaks in periods of frost.
RainBird sprinklers for fields of grass
Broere Hortitech works with RainBird 1800 or RainBird 3500 sprinklers. These high quality sprinklers can be adjusted in spray height, distance and angle in which it sprays.
Power supply pump and irrigation device
For pumps and irrigation devices a power supply is necessary. We require a 230volt 1 phase power supply secured at a minimum of 16amps with a slow fuse or a C automate. A 300mA circuit breaker is desirable.
Irrigating careless and automatically?
On behalf of the irrigation a RainBird device can be installed. This gives the possibility to start the pump and irrigation groups automatically on programmed times. This is very useful if you are away from home or you prefer to irrigate at night. A rain check is useful with this system as well because it can adjust the system when there has fallen enough rain.
Take care of your pump and pipe’s
Make sure that your pump is drained before the frost and store it frost-free. Let the pipe’s drain empty or blow them empty. Flush the pipe’s good in the spring and check if the sprinklers are still functioning. Broere Irrigatie is willing to take care of these things. If you want this you can sign a maintenance contract with us combined with a complete maintenance service in the spring.
